Manitoba bans dog ear cropping
A veterinary medical association in Western Canada announced the ban on, but some breeders warn it could lead to torn floppy ears.

good, the only thing i wonder is why we hadn’t banned this practice a long time ago.

if breeders are worried about dangerously floppy ears, perhaps they should start breeding dogs with less comically exaggerated features.

Haha the floppy ears thing is bullshit. I am a dog show person and soon to enter the world of breeding, and even as a beginner in this world I know that.

It’s illegal to crop ears in NZ (we also have strict rules on tail docking, they are only allowed to use bands), and no dog I have ever seen from the breeds that were previously cropped have torn ears. Of course the ears are floppy though, that’s what those breeds ears are meant to look like when they are not cropped!

I will tell you why they are really worried. It means, after years of not breeding for correct ears, because they were cropped, the breeders dogs will likely have incorrect ears (according to the breed standards that all pure-bred dog breeders try to follow) and this means they are going to do worse in the show ring and will have to hurry to fix a problem they caused. They same thing has happened in the countries where they have banned tail docking completely, lots of dogs with god-awful looking tails. Let me tell you, a Rottie looks very silly indeed with a little curled rats tail.
